Life Scout, Ben Meyer of Troop 439 (St. Francis Borgia) is organizing a Bone Marrow Registry Drive for his Eagle Scout project.

Ben got the idea from his one year old cousin Calvin Brune, who received a life-saving bone marrow transplant at the age of 6 months. This Bone Marrow Registry Drive is in Calvin's honor.

The event will be held May 1, 2010 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at St. Francis Borgia Grade School Cafeteria, 225 Cedar Street, Washington, Missouri. For additional information, contact Ben Meyer at 636-239-1858.

The process requires a simple cheek swab and is open to people between the ages of 18 and 60. No blood is drawn. There is no cost to join however a small donation would be appreciated to offset the cost of processing fees. Donations are tax deductible.

The community is encouraged to join the registry. For thousands of patients with life-threatening diseases such as leukemia and lymphoma, a marrow transplant from an unrelated donor is their best or only hope for a cure. These patients depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match – and a second chance at life.
