Missouri residents who want to register as organ donors may do so from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, in the cafeteria at St. John's Mercy Hospital, 901 East Fifth Street in Washington.

With more than 105,000 men, women, and children nationwide – 1,700 in Missouri – currently in need of life-saving organ and tissue transplants, it is vital that everyone say "yes" to organ and tissue donation. It takes a single donor to save the lives of up to eight people and enhance the lives of at least 50 others.

Individuals in Missouri who said yes to organ and tissue donation before may need to say yes again. In 2008, Missouri's organ and tissue donation registry law changed. Before 2008, a family member was still required to give final consent before donation could occur. With the new registry, the documented decision will be honored and family members won't have to be faced with the decision.

To become an organ and tissue donor, sign up at St. John's Mercy on Tuesday, April 27 or:
  • Visit www.DonateLifeMissouri.com
  • Call toll-free 888-497-4564
  • Say "yes" at the DMV when asked to be on the registry while renewing the state driver license or identification card
